       Emanuel is a name often used by Christian churches.  What is its special meaning to Jews?

    An ancient rabbinic interpretation of the Bibilical Scroll of Esther supplements the Scriptural story with a Midrash that we do not read in the Megillah.

    After Prime Minister Haman sent notification to exterminate every Jew in all 126 Satrapies of the Persian Empire under King Ahashverosh, Queen Esther's cousin Mordecai encountered 3 Jewish children returning home from religious school.  He asked what they had learned that day, and they quoted him a verse that reinforced his faith and confidence, as it should for all of us:
